Surface 3 Pro: Unable boot from USB or SSD for issue with winload.efi

Recently I had a crash of Windows 10, build 9879, thanks the temperature issue of Surface 3 with Intel i7. After the reboot the system was unable to load Windows because there was a problem with winload.efi. The full details is:

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The digital signature for this file could not be verified

File: \windows\system32\winload.efi

Error Code: 0xc0000428

If you plan to restart the computer with a USB Device, or Network, you wrong! winload.efi is a critical failure of TPM and so there’s no way to find a workaround…..or not? Oh yes Franky….there’s a way!

Open the EFI Settings with this procedure:

  • Press and hold the volume-up button
  • Press and release the power button

Disable the Secure Boot and restart the machine; remember that when the SB is disabled the boot screen is red (this should create some suspect to end-user). Wait few seconds after Windows restore the internal key. When the OS is up, turn-off the machine and re-enable the Secure Boot with the same procedure.

Oh….about temperature issue, Microsoft plans to release an update to resolve it. I hope faster!
